«New Moon of releasing attachments and re-committing to our practices»
Uttara Bhadrapada ‘the warrior star’
This New Moon will be in the nakshatra Uttara Bhadrapada ‘the warrior star’, wholly encompassed within the watery sign of Pisces, the cosmic ocean of the zodiac. Uttara Bhadrapada, also called ‘the latter one with lucky feet’ is symbolized by two legs of a funeral cot, which it forms together with the stars of the previous nakshatra, Purva Bhadrapada, signifying a need for solitude and detachment.
Ahir Budhnya the serpent of the deep waters
The deity that resides here is Ahir Budhnya the serpent of the deep waters, representing a deep spiritual inclination as well as a connection to the kundalini energy within, and that leads the mind to the deep, dark waters where hidden emotions reside. This is a nakshatra with a capacity for spiritual attainment and psychic abilities, wisdom and enlightenment.
Saturn-Jupiter influence
The planetary ruler for Uttara Bhadrapada is Saturn, within Jupiter’s sign of Pisces, creating a Saturn-Jupiter energy to be found here. Jupiter bestows luck and wisdom to this nakshatra, while Saturn destroys illusions and seeks to bring us into our spiritual path by removing our attachments to material things. These sort of contradictory influences shows the struggle that can be found within this nakshatra which is allowing our attachments to “die” and follow the spiritual path and the commitment to follow the spiritual wisdom.
Saturn as the planetary ruler of this nakshatra brings a serious influence on the kinds of activities initiated during this new moon where it might be beneficial to be a bit attentive to the kinds of goals you set or projects you initiate. Saturn is the planet of time and determination, so whatever we initiate under Saturn’s influence is best aimed at long-term results or setting us up for the long haul, quick satisfaction and unmerited gains is not endorsed by Saturn.
As this is the second to last nakshatra, within the last sign of the zodiac, this asterism in itself deals more with receiving the fruits of your already accomplished labors, more so than with the initiation of new endeavors. There is, however, a natural energy of new beginnings during the new moons, but perhaps see this as more of a chance to re-evaluate and correct course on the path that you are already on, rather than beginning anew entirely.
In the case of this new noon in Uttara Bhadrapada its influence might pertain more to what we need to let go of, in order to create space for something new to come into our lives. Much like the mind needs some quiet in order for an inspired thought to enter, all creativity, or any form of creation for that matter, begins from passivity or stillness.
New Moon conjunct debilitated Mercury
The New Moon in Uttara Bhadrapada will also be conjunct debilitated Mercury, bringing us the notion that sometimes we may have to relax and let go of trying to control or micro-manage every detail in order to see things come together. One of the main lessons for Mercury in Pisces is letting go of the details in order to see the bigger picture, to relax and refrain from trying to control or (over-)analyze our emotions, or we might suffer from intellectual overwhelm. Some questions for reflection this New Moon:
❧ Is there some aspect of my life that has to “die” (metaphorically) in order for me to feel more at peace or ready to start anew?
❧ In what areas am I currently nurturing attachments? Am I micro-managing the actions or desired outcomes from my projects/relationships/children? If so, how can I help myself to detach and release my desire to control the way things unfold?
❧ How can I create more space in my life so that my creativity can be able to flow more freely?
New Moon blessings! ✨
