Mercury transits through Pisces

Debilitated Mercury transits through Pisces, while Mars is exalted in Capricorn

Mercury moves into the sign of Pisces from March 24th until April 8th, its sign of debilitation.

What does this mean?

Pisces is the sign where planet Mercury’s qualities come through the least, the sign in the chart where it performs the weakest. Mercury is the planet of intellect; it is detail oriented and analytical, where Pisces on the other hand is a water sign, dreamy, vast and of big emotions (think of the ocean, the largest body of water), where Mercury’s attention to detail gets lost in the vastness. Mercurys’ structured organizing and communication skills get lost a little here. To better understand the distinction, you could look at Virgo, it’s sign of exaltation, which is a quick, organized, detail oriented and analytical sign, so Mercury’s qualities are really in their element here.

Another aspect is that Mercury is a neutral planet, whereas Jupiter is the planet of hopes and dreams and can be opinionated and dogmatic about practices and beliefs. Mercury doesn’t get emotional or judgemental about things, and this detached quality resonates quite poorly with the energy of Jupiterian Pisces.

While Mercury transits Pisces the mind can tend to wander, we might get some new inspiration and ideas, but may have a hard time focusing and implementing them in a practical way. Don’t get lost in details, or you’ll never get things done during this time. This is perhaps not the best time to make any major decisions, or to make business plans or strategy.

During this time Venus will be hemmed in between Mars and Saturn in Capricorn also, which can dampen our creativity; where the joy and inspiration we normally feel might not come as easily. However, Capricorn is Mars’ exaltation sign, so what we lack in inspiration we can make up for in discipline. Mars is the planet of action and routine and a strong Mars in the birth chart can make us disciplined and goal oriented, helping us focus and do the work. Capricorn, the natural tenth house, is all about working hard and reaching new heights, and Mars energy does very well here, so use this transit to really get down to work, maybe get some things done that has been put on the shelf.
